I've had some longish relationships -- 5 years or more -- and had partners I've lived with, but marriage has just never happened for me. Anyway, marriage isn't necessarily my goal, but I still hope for a long-term, committed relationship.
When I learned that a friend whose wife had died about 10 months previously was meeting women through the internet, I thought I had to try it. He gave a website to try. I also know at least one couple who met via the internet and who are now married. I think it is now the way to meet someone, even though it seems sort of strange to me.
Well, I had my first coke date on Saturday at Kelly's. Oh! I can only hope it improves from here. A very nice man, but...! He lost me when the second thing he said was he had come from visiting his son in the prison at Clarinda. Jeez! The first thing was that he had been there for 15 minutes. Well, excuse me, but I had been there for 45. I refused to give my phone number out and he was coming through Creston from Clarinda, so timing was not precise. I arrived a bit early and was shopping, trying to look nonchalant. Actually I did get into shopping (imagine that!) and was outside buying and making arrangements for a trellis to be delivered after we tried wedging into my car while he must have arrived.
He also spoke loudly in the restaurant, saying things that were a dead giveaway that we were meeting for the first time. Cringe. He needed to use the restroom and even made remarks about how it was my chance to leave and seemed to think it meant something because I was still there when he came back. As if I'd run out on him. Anyway, live and learn. Next time I'll try to know more first. Maybe meeting in another town would also be good! haha
But I definitely felt like Elaine Benes from Seinfield on Saturday!
