It had been suggested that we wear any old AEA-logo clothing as a way to celebrate our last year as Green Valley AEA14. I chose an old green (imagine that!) button-down that had the Parent-Educator/GVAEA logo on it. I had won it many years ago, I think because I notified the most parents of the P-E Coordinator.
As a surprise, they had a competition to model our clothing for prizes. About 10 people decided to compete. Betty Grimes had the same model shirt on as I did (but hers still buttoned! haha I needed my vintage body to fit my vintage shirt.) Betty and I at the last minute decided to enter the contest together.
We were waiting to "go on" and were just going to walk like conjoined twins. Then I got the idea to sing the Doublemint song. haha We changed the wording to include Green Valley AEA, but it was pretty funny and goofy. I admit up front that funny and goofy are my style, but singing! Never!!! Never ever!!! OMG. I cannot carry a tune in a bushel basket. Plus one of my most awful memories has to do with everyone laughing at my singing at an extended family Christmas. Only my grandpa was concerned about my feelings. Oh, even typing this is difficult. I was in 3rd or 4th grade at the time and it made a huge and painful impression on me.
So singing in front of around 80 people was amazing. Of course, it was more yelling than singing, but I just love my attempt.
Oh, and we won!
